Big announcement of Gujarat government regarding PM accommodation
8.61 lakh houses will be constructed in urban areas in Gujarat
4.49 lakh houses will be constructed in rural areas in the state
The Gujarat Government has made an important announcement regarding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Announcing this, the Gujarat government said, “Gujarat will have 8.61 lakh houses in urban areas and 4.49 lakh houses in rural areas. The government plans to provide well-equipped buildings by 2024. For this, the central government had allocated Rs 48,000 crore in the budget for housing.
It may be mentioned that a total of more than 9.76 lakh new houses have been constructed in urban as well as rural areas of the state and houses have been provided to the homeless citizens. In order to provide houses to all the middle class, under PM Awas Yojana in Gujarat, a total target of 8.61 lakh new houses has been set in urban areas and a total of 4.49 lakh new houses in rural areas which is being worked on a war footing.
All over India, including Gujarat, under PM Awas Yojana, a total of over 3.10 crore new housing units have been constructed so far with the objective of giving new address to the needy. In addition, the central government has set a target of building another 80 lakh new houses in the next one year. To realize this, the Center has allocated Rs. A provision of Rs 48,000 crore has also been made. To realize this goal, the central government has decided to continue the PM Awas Yojana till March 2024.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban
The scheme was announced on 25 June 2015 under the guidance of PM Modi with the motto of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Housing for All-Urban with the objective of providing affordable housing to the urban poor and middle class beneficiaries in the urban areas of the state. This housing scheme covers 162 Municipalities, 8 Municipal Corporations and 1 Notified City of Saputara in Gujarat.
In the component wise progress made under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Gujarat, under the Affordable Housing in Partnership component, Rs. Homeless spouses with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh and unmarried children are defined as family beneficiaries. In which Rs. 1.50 and Rs. 1.50 lakh, a total of Rs. 3 lakh assistance is given. While for 50 sq.m. accommodation the beneficiary contributes Rs. Beneficiary contribution for housing of 2 lakh and 20 sq.m. 3.50 lakh beneficiaries are left to contribute. A total of 2.27 lakh houses have been sanctioned under this component out of which 1.70 lakh houses have been completed.
Under the in-situ slum re-development component, slum dwellers on government lands in urban areas are being provided free accommodation at the same place free of cost. This component includes all the families as homeless spouses and unmarried children living in slums before the year 2010 as beneficiaries defined as families. Out of a total of more than 3000 sanctioned dwellings in this component, work of 15 thousand dwellings was completed.
Beneficiary lead construction component in urban areas owning land or unfinished house and Rs. Beneficiaries defined as a spouse and unmarried children with an annual income of up to Rs. Assistance up to Rs. 2.50 lakh for housing construction under this component in which Rs. 1.50 and Rs. 3 lakh, a total of Rs. 3.50 lakh is provided by DBT. Out of a total of more than 1.44 lakh sanctioned dwellings in this component, the operation of 6 thousand dwellings has been completed.
A total of 6.24 lakh houses were completed in Gujarat
While under the credit link subsidy component, for the first housing up to 50 sq.m. in urban areas, Rs. Interest subsidy up to 2.5 is being provided. Under this component, a total of Rs. Gujarat ranks first among other states with the benefit of interest subsidy of Rs 10,500 crore.
Thus, out of the total 2.61 lakh houses sanctioned in these four components in Gujarat under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the work of 4.5 lakh houses has been completed while the remaining houses are in progress at various stages.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Grameen
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been launched by the Central Government from 20th November 2016 with the objective of raising the standard of living of the families in rural areas. The central government has a 50 per cent stake in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the state government has a 50 per cent stake.
The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the homeless as well as the beneficiaries of raw housing in rural areas who are named in the permanent waiting list of Socio-Economic Survey Study-2011 and who are eligible as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Rural Affairs, Government of India. To be helpful for construction of housing, in which the beneficiaries are given a phased assistance of Rs. 1,50,000 / - per dwelling, besides Rs. 15,000 is eligible for a total assistance of Rs. 1,2,610.
It has been decided to provide additional assistance of Rs.5,000 / - per beneficiary for construction of bathrooms with accommodation for women during the year 2020-21, keeping in view the women of the families of the beneficiaries. Beneficiaries who complete the construction of the house within six months after the payment of the first installment are given an incentive amount of Rs. 50,000 / - per beneficiary under the state government's 'Mukhyamantri Protsahak Sahay Yojana'. Under this scheme all the districts are divided into five different zones keeping in view the geographical situation and sustainable and earthquake resistant housing is constructed according to 31 type design.
Construction of over 3 lakh new houses for homeless beneficiaries in rural areas in last five years
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to build houses for the homeless beneficiaries in rural areas, in the last five years, against the target of a total of 2,8,105 houses, 4,6,8 new houses have been constructed as on May 8, 207 and 2,8,8 houses have been sanctioned. 1,12,8 housing is currently in progress.

So far, under PM Awas Yojana Grameen in Gujarat, the highest number of 31,000 houses in Dahod district, 4,612 in Panchmahal district, 2,6 in Chhotaudepur, 2,6 in Aravalli and 5,6 in Aravalli and 4,3,8 in Banaskantha district. The work to be done has been completed.

It may be mentioned that Gujarat has been honored with various awards by the Union Ministry of Rural Affairs for its excellent performance in PM Awas. In which Dang district was first in the comprehensive implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the year 2016-17 while Ranavav taluka of Porbandar was honored in the second place for the best performance in the year 2017-20.
